Tintern Abbey

Tintern Abbey, on the banks of the ?? river, is perhaps the most famous abbey ruins in Britain. The site is spectacular; the church and former Abbey close sits on a relatively narrow floodplain, about 10 miles from the Severn estuary.

Like so many of the famous abbeys, the church and outbuildings were sold for stone, which is why so many of them are but ruins now.

Unlike many other sites, much of the exquisite detail remains.
